"IllumiSafe" Phone Light
Walking home at night can be scary. Inspired by my nights walking to my car, I felt like I needed extra light both for safety from attackers, and to help make myself obvious to oncoming vehicles. This device, which does not draw from your phone’s battery in order to keep it available for emergency calls, supplies a high power diffused or un-diffused light.
This device has a hinge with multiple functions. When turned on, the hinge switches from diffusor screen to un-diffused light. When turned off, the hinge acts as a phone kickstand for watching videos, or a "handle" so that you can hold your phone while taking calls.
This project was done for the one week Vignelli Design Ambassadors program, in a cultural exchange with students at FolkWang University in Essen, Germany. I, along with my colleague Tayo Oke have been chosen to lead a workshop in Germany based on the process and merits of our designs.
